The third season of Happy Streets began from recently with city Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane himself played Pickleball along with one of the founders of the game Douglas Smith.
Happy Streets citizen centric initiative by The Times of India, partnered with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Navi Mumbai Traffic Police. As a part of this event on Palm Beach Road, hailed as most busy road of the city between Vazirani Sport Acadey and TS Chanakya signal, citizens gather in large numbers from 6am to 9am for every Sunday. Citizen come to Palm Beach and play what they want. There are many games available and Pickleball is a part of it.
November 1st was first day and Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane, Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Babasaheb Rajale was guest for inauguration. After formal inauguration of Happy Streets Mayor Sonawane and DCM Rajale came to Pickleball court, located at TS Chanakya signal, and also took a ride of rental free cycles. Then both guests played pickleball. They were enjoying game and hitting ball by wooden paddle. Pickleball was appreciated by Mayor and DCM. Mangala Ghorade, Rupali More, Madhavi were also present on first day.
Douglas Smith, from US, who is founder of world Pickleball, reached Pickleball court to promote the game on second Sunday (November 8) He interacted with many people and told them that how unique this game is. He talked very friendly to children and youngers. Mr.Smith gave demo, guided and encouraged players. His presence was very energetic for all Pickleball lovers.
Sunil Valavalkar, general secretary of AIPA, Amit Vengurlekar, Chetan Kate, Amey Kulkarni, all from Mumbai came with Smith. All arrangements of event were made by Rajesh Waghmare, organizer of Navi Mumbai Pickleball. Dr. Rahul Salunke, Dhanajay Vaidya, Sushrut Salunke were present.
The third Sunday (November 15) saw Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane again visited the pickleball court and was playing for more than half an hour. He enjoyed a lot and spent quality time for game. He was also present on the forth Sunday (November 22) indicating his growing love and passion for the game.
Pickleball got a standee from The Times of India on November 29. It attracted people because of his name “Pickleball – Fitness with Fun”.
Spokesperson of state BJP, Varsha Bhosale’s visit was also surprise for pickleball players on fifth Sunday.
On December 6, sixth Sunday experienced equally energetic crowd with six players who represented Navi Mumbai in Mumbai’s frist Pickleball Mayor Cup at Andheri, guided other players on basics of the game. Seventh Sunday (December 13) was also crowded.

Happy Streets has scheduled total 20 Sundays. Pickleball will participate in all editions. Anybodies can come and play Pickleball.
